Threats to ban bad news, acted upon by Monero admins

By and large the overriding spirit of Crypto is to be open, transparent, and welcoming which is exemplified by the immediate, or eventual, non-proprietary nature of the development being put forth by teams around the globe.

Ryo Currency is doing our part to lead the way in crypto technology development by working with fellow Cryptonote projects to create an open forum, with shared moderation among competing projects, to foster an environment to openly discuss and debate any technical enhancement or deficiency.[1] Specifically we encourage Ryo community members to engage in evidence-based discussion around an lack of privacy in Cryptonote. While also asking our community members to be respectful, even when the other side is not.

Unfortunately though sometimes over the course of aging a community can suffer from ethical decay where statements and knowledge sharing which was once considered being forthright about technical strengths and weaknesses somehow morphs into being labeled as “toxic” and “degrading” behavior worthy of banishment. An example of exactly this situation occurred with RYO developer and (now former) XMR contributor/community member Fireice_uk. He was recently on the receiving end of a coordinated black listing campaign that began with threats and ended in an extensive multi-forum banning to silence and remove his insights from Monero’s social platforms. [2] [3] He was relieved of his moderation powers in the r/MoneroMining subreddit and subsequently muted in all Monero Telegram channels, we guess that’s one route to take in dealing with someone who is only sharing some harsh realities.

The Ryo team is disappointed, though not surprised, by the overt repression by the Monero mods of the information Fireice_uk was openly sharing. We’ll close with an interesting look at what apparently doesn’t warrant a ban and how to celebrate the expulsion and silencing of a prime contributor.

Been around awhile? Well then spouting ethnic slurs is all good on XMR platforms…
Thou shalt not speak of the limits of privacy in Monero, else be banned and mocked for not towing the company line.
Yup, another happy community member getting banned for asking questions…
